Pocket Casts
Universal

Description

Pocket Casts is a powerful podcast manager.

We love podcasts, so we made a podcatcher that is full featured and simple to use. But don’t take our word for it:

“iOS has a ton of quality podcast managers these days, but after testing every one, our favorite is Pocket Casts because it manages to hit the sweet spot between functionality and usability.” Lifehacker

“Pocket Casts is a great podcast client...the push notification and sync systems are reliable, and automatic downloads finally make for an invisible download experience that happens behind the scenes and you don’t have to think about.” MacStories

Features:

CROSS PLATFORM SYNCING: Sync your subscriptions, playback and filters between iOS and other mobile devices as well as Pocket Casts Web.

AUTO DOWNLOAD: Customise which podcasts the app will download in the background. No need to even open the app!

CONTINUOUS PLAYBACK: Play episodes back to back, to back, to back… you get the point

VARIABLE SPEED: Play audio or video all the way from 0.5x to 3.0x, you speed demon, you.

FILTERS: Want a list of every unplayed episode? Right here. How about sorting your episodes by custom categories? Done.

NOTIFICATIONS: We’ll let you know when new episodes are released.

AIRPLAY & CHROMECAST: Cast your episodes straight to your TV with a single tap.

STORAGE: Set how many episodes of a podcast you want to keep. We’ll clean up the rest. News mode added for the contemporaries among us.

DESIGN: We've toiled night and day to reflect the iOS 8 design guidelines while making your podcasts the focus. Pocket Casts has an adaptive interface - colors change to complement podcast artwork.

VIDEO & AUDIO: Pocket Casts lets you toggle video podcasts to audio and back again for when you’re on the move.

CONTROL: Control your podcasts from the control center, lock screen, headphones and Bluetooth, with custom skip intervals. Customise the start time of your episodes to skip repetitive intros.

SLEEP TIMER: Fall asleep to your favorite boring podcasts.

REFRESH: Instantly refresh all your podcasts before other apps even have a chance to do 1! Our servers monitor your podcasts, so your phone doesn't have to.

OPML: Import or export your subscriptions easily to and from our app.

TABLET SUPPORT: It’s an equal opportunity app, with support for compatible iPhones, iPods and iPads.

SHARING: Share your favorite podcasts, episodes and positions in episodes. Sharing is caring.

DISCOVER: Find great new content with curated featured podcasts, currently trending podcasts, networks and much more.

SUPPORT: Provided via email, Twitter, Facebook and Google+. Heck we occasionally even log in to Reddit to say hello. We also have a rocking User Guide for those that prefer a little hand-holding.

COMPATIBILITY: Pocket Casts supports the following devices running iOS 8: iPhone 4s, 5, 5s, 5c, 6, 6+, iPad 2, 3, 4, iPad Air 1, 2, iPad Mini 1, 2, 3 and iPod touch 5G.

There are many more powerful, straight forward features to help you make Pocket Casts yours and in case you were wondering, here’s what Pocket Casts DOESN’T have: ads, episode limits, pushy trials or feature bloat.

It. Just. Works.

What's new in version 5.0.1

- Fixed an issue that could cause the app to download podcasts over 3G/4G even when you have that setting turned off.
- Fixed a crash with the chapters dialog.
- Fixed my lack of sleep due to fixing these bugs over the weekend.
- Fixed videos not playing when you connect to a bluetooth speaker.
- Improved handoff support to play.pocketcasts.com, it now works even if you haven't logged in to the website first.
- Improved one thing about you while you weren't watching. That's right, that thing you thought you could never do, now you can do it. Well off you go! Take some podcasts with you of course!
- Continued to type into this updates note box, despite auto updates being a thing for years now.

Fast refreshes are the the best feature, just wish it would sync between devices
Instacast will sync between devices. It's my favorite!
Racer replied:
Syncing is in the works according to the release notes of todays update.
Michael Johnston replied:
Fair enough. To be honest, this app does look pretty nice. Do you have notifications for updates turned on?
Racer replied:
Yes i do have global notifications turned on, they seem reasonably close to real time. you can customize them for each individual podcast but I have not done that.
Michael Johnston replied:
No I mean for when this app is updated. You can do that, you know ;)
Racer replied:
aahh... took me a sec to find it Bookmark button> Updates checkbox

i currently have all the competiting podcast apps still installed on my devices just so i get the update notices from the AppStore and can read the change log....

thanks
Michael Johnston replied:
Will this let you do a 30-second skip forward/back by hitting the ff/rw icons? I really like that I can do that from the "Now Playing" bar and I don't jump to the beginning or end of the show I'm listening to.
Racer replied:
Yes, completely customizable times too. Defaults are +45 & -10

I prefer Instacast even though its not perfect.
Pocket Cast works way better and the UI is nicer then Instacast
Michael Johnston replied:
The primary thing I like about Instacast is the thirty second skip feature via the OS media controls. Does this have that?
Scott replied:
Yes.

Amazing app for podcast, has the nicest UI of all the podcasting apps iv seen.
Initially this was the app to have. Having used other apps, there are better solutions. The app UI is very overdone and busy. There are no abilities to add smart-playlists and no option to automatically download new episodes as they are available. While not a knock on the iPhone version of this app, there is no iPad equivalent which can be had from other apps.

LOVING this podcatcher. I've tried Instacast, Downcast, iCatcher. This one's very iOS7 friendly and highly customizable.

So far, so good. However, though the interface isn't the prettiest I still prefer the feature set of Downcast.

Update: The sync seems somewhat unreliable. For example, if I stop playing the episode on my iPhone and then resume playback on my iPad the playback position is often way off. It seems the iPhone does not properly sync the playback position when you stop playing an episode.

This app makes it dead easy to find, download, organize and enjoy podcasts. I can't believe I was using the iTunes Store and syncing with my computer for so long. I have some podcasts set to download automatically and others I pick and choose the episodes I want. Love the flexibility and ease of use.
