Even after the update it's still pretty slow and somewhat buggy and no manual refresh option makes this app completely unusable right now. The feature set and UI is REALLY good, so it still has promise. Just not right now.

I'll be bookmarking this and waiting for an update.
Thoughts on the update?
Michael Johnston replied:
It's better, but still buggy. Might run better on your 4S.
Paul White replied:
It still runs like crap on my 4S, unfortunately. Sticking with Downcast.

It's a nice first start, but there are better 3rd party apps like Downcast or Instacast.
I second the Instacast recommendation!
Andrew Douch said:
i've switched from Downcast to Podcasts. It used to be really buggy - but it is running really great for me now, and unlike Downcast it can download my podcasts in the background and doesn't time out like Downcast does.

The first version of this app was pretty frustrating to use, but now that podcasts are out of the Music app in iOS 6, I went back to the updated version and it’s quite good now, though it needs improvement. I don’t separate my podcasts into different playlists, so I don’t miss that functionality. It does everything I want now. UPDATE 1.1.2: I had huge problems with hundreds of old podcasts showing up as new, but the 2012/11/03 update 1.1.2 fixed that, and now I have no complaints left. It’s great!

I'm not sure why Apple is trying to force users to use an app that's still buggy, but if you want to still sync your podcasts with iTunes, this is the way to do it. And by "sync" I don't mean that you have to download them with iTunes, I download them via the app but I sync with iTunes so I can seamlessly start a podcast on my phone and finish it on the computer.

This app is buggy to say the least. The reason I recommend it is, 1. It's made by Apple and hopefully will get better. 2. It's free. You have nothing to lose. Downcast and Instacast are both good alternatives and well worth the money.

I love this app. I have an adapter in my car, so my wife and I listen to podcasts on our road trips, and I enjoy having something besides music to listen to at the gym. Highly recommended. Also, Apple seems to have fixed some laggyness in its most recent update.
